How to request your history

The path on Spotify, how long it takes, what the file holds.

Assistants that can see a browser — ChatGPT in agent mode, Comet, Claude in Chrome, Gemini — can click through this for you in a tab where you are already signed in. Copy the text below and paste it into your assistant.

Open https://www.spotify.com/account/privacy/ in my account (I am already signed in). Under “Download your data”, tick only “Extended streaming history” and untick the other options. Click “Request data”. Then open my email, find the message from Spotify with the subject “Confirm your request” and click the confirm button. Tell me when you are done. In about two days another email from Spotify will arrive, “Your data is ready”: when I ask, download the file my_spotify_data.zip and tell me where you saved it.

You are giving the assistant access to your Spotify account and to your email. Only do this with an assistant you trust.
Dropping the zip here is still on you: Fonotech reads the file inside your own device, and no assistant takes part in that.

The two requests are different

The basic request brings one year of plays and arrives fast. The extended one brings the whole account, from the first day, and it is what this page uses.

How long

Spotify promises up to 30 days for the extended history. In practice it usually arrives within a few days — the author's took two. The basic request is faster still, but covers only one year.

What is in the zip

Streaming_History_Audio_YEAR.json — the music plays, one line each.
Streaming_History_Video_YEAR.json — video and video podcasts. Not used here.

What each line holds

Date and time, artist, track, album, how long it played, whether it was skipped, whether shuffle was on, the connection country, the device — and the IP address. This page never reads the IP.
